Job Summary

Aoka Engineering is a third party building department service and software provider that works to assist local jurisdictions. We are looking to hire a building plan reviewer that can perform a variety of plan reviews in the structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (and miscellaneous) disciplines in accordance with relevant codes. This role is remote.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of plan checking and plan review processes.
  • Understanding of building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, life safety, energy, housing, zoning, and related codes.
  • Understanding of modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications. English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation knowledge is expected.
  • Read and interpret building plans, specifications, and codes.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, procedures, and other written materials.
  • Establish and maintain a variety of manual and computerized files, record-keeping, and project management systems.
  • Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner; organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines.
  •  A minimum of five years of experience in code enforcement that includes plan review and/or inspections for residential and commercial projects to ensure compliance with applicable codes. 
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. 
  • Relevant ICC Certificate or Professional Engineering License required.

Responsibilities

  •  Conduct complex, technical review of architectural, structural, and MEP plans for residential and commercial structures.
  • Ensure the plans comply with relevant codes, ordinances, and governmental requirements. 
  • Prepare written plan check reports according to company template guidelines; verify valuations; scheduling and facilitate meetings with architects, engineers, contractors, etc.
  • Enter information into the permitting system and update, as needed; and maintain logs.
  • Assist the contractors and architects by telephone, written and electronic correspondence on any queries they might have about the plan check response.
  • Consult with the inspector; discussing code requirements, and taking action to have non-compliant conditions resolved.
  • Coordinate with others outside their own work area to coordinate efforts and maintain cooperative and efficient relations.
  • Provide excellent customer service by listening to the needs and concerns (if any) of client local jurisdictions and contractors and finding ways to solve them. 
  • Attend company meetings and training as needed and required. 
  • May need to provide supervision to lower level personnel. 

Job Type: Part- Time


Salary: $40-$60  per hour based on experience and qualification


Work Location: Remote anywhere in the USA, Texas preferred.  

Education
