Job Summary

Aoka Engineering is a third party building department service and software provider that works to assist local jurisdictions. We are looking to hire a fire inspector that can perform a variety of inspections related to inspecting buildings, facilities, and properties to ensure compliance with fire codes, regulations, and safety standards. You will conduct inspections, identify fire hazards, and provide guidance to property owners and occupants on fire prevention and safety measures to ensure compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulations.

Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas (Remote)

Qualifications

Required:
  • Valid and current fire protection license(s) issued by the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) (e.g., PL, FEL-A, FEL-B, FEL-K) or relevant ICC certifications.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in fire protection system inspections and maintenance.
  • Proficient with mechanical tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of NFPA codes, Texas state regulations, and safety standards.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass required background checks and fingerprinting.
Preferred:
  • Technical or vocational training related to fire protection systems.
  • Experience utilizing electronic documentation systems or field-service management software.

Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Capable of independent work as well as team collaboration.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, including possible weekend or on-call availability.
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to lift and maneuver equipment up to 75 lbs.
  • Comfortable performing tasks in varied environments, including outdoor and industrial settings.
  • Frequently able to bend, kneel, climb, and complete physically demanding duties.

Responsibilities


  • Perform inspections, testing, and maintenance on fire protection equipment, including extinguishers, suppression systems, and alarms in line with NFPA codes, TDI regulations, and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Diagnose and repair fire protection equipment, replacing worn or defective parts as necessary.
  • Accurately document inspection outcomes, maintenance activities, and repairs for compliance and client records.
  • Investigate complaints and reports of fire hazards, unsafe conditions, and violations of fire codes, and take appropriate enforcement actions as necessary.
  • Educate property owners, occupants, and the public on fire safety practices, evacuation procedures, and the importance of fire prevention measures.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records of inspections, findings, enforcement actions, and other related activities.
  • Collaborate with other fire department personnel, building inspectors, and regulatory agencies to coordinate inspections, share information, and enforce fire codes and regulations.
  • Stay current with changes in fire codes, regulations, and industry standards through training, professional development, and participation in professional organizations.
  • Participate in fire investigations and emergency response activities as needed.
  • May need to provide supervision to lower level personnel.

Compensation:
  • $25-$35 per hour based on experience and license.
